Lula Criticizes Central Bank President's Meeting with Tarcísio and Questions: “Will He Repeat Moro?”
“The president of the Central Bank is willing to play the same role that Moro did? A champion of justice, with political commitments?” said President Lula
247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) criticized the actions of the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, in an interview with Rádio CBN on Tuesday morning (18). In addition to expressing opposition to maintaining high interest rates, Lula mocked Campos Neto's meeting with the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), where the economist allegedly signaled his willingness to assume the Ministry of Finance in a possible government led by the Bolsonaro supporter. Lula compared Campos Neto to the suspect ex-judge and senator, Sergio Moro, emphasizing that the Central Bank president has the same role, "with political commitments."
“It wasn’t that he met with Tarcísio at a party. The party was for him; it was a tribute from the São Paulo government to him, certainly because the governor of São Paulo finds the interest rate of 10.50% wonderful. He must think it’s wonderful. So, when he launches himself for a position, I imagine, are we going to repeat a Moro? The president of the Central Bank is willing to play the same role that Moro did? A champion of justice, with political commitments? Therefore, the president of the Central Bank needs to be a serious, responsible figure, and he must be immune to the momentary nervousness of the market,” said Lula, referring to the fact that Moro accepted the invitation to become the Minister of Justice in Bolsonaro's government after leading the Lava-Jato operation.
