Maduro to Celso Amorim: 'We are not facing a democratic opposition'
Venezuelan president condemned violent opposition protests and again warned of a "bloodbath" promoted by the far-right.
247 - The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, addressed the nation after the protests on Monday (29) against his victory in Sunday's election (28). In his speech, he discussed the meeting he had with Celso Amorim, the special advisor to President Lula for international affairs, who is in Caracas to observe the vote-counting process.
"Today I told Celso Amorim, with whom I met, we are leading. There are various oppositions that want a democratic and peaceful alternative. But this is a fascist group. We are not facing a democratic opposition, but a violent, fascist, and criminal counterrevolution. I will not tire of explaining this to the world," said the re-elected president after scenes of violence took over the streets of Caracas on Monday (29), in response to the result announced by the National Electoral Council.
"Now it is understood. I am preventing a bloodbath," Maduro said, reinforcing allegations of attacks by far-right militants on a PSUV headquarters and public transportation in Caracas.
